The Dial Home Device, or DHD for short, is a piece of Ancient technology that powers the Stargate and allows the dialling of Stargate addresses. The device is typically round in shape, with the Stargate symbols spread out around a single activation button, however DHD's, such as the one in Atlantis and the Puddle Jumpers, exist which are flat with buttons representing the symbols spread out along its surface, with the activation button in the center.
There is a control crystal in the panel section of the DHD, underneath the main dialling console. This crystal is needed to power the Stargate and therefore dial other addresses.
As some Stargates in the Pegasus galaxy are located in space, a DHD cannot be used. Instead, ships wanting to enter the Stargate must be equipped with their own dialling device. In this case, the Stargate is powered by three power nodes, equally spaced around the gate.
