Ancient Ships: Puddle Jumper

Puddle Jumper

The Puddle Jumper is a small craft of Ancient design, capable of travelling through the Stargate. It has a roughly cylindrical shape, with two small pods on the side which retract when the vessel lands or enters the wormhole. Contained within the pods are up to six Ancient drone weapons which can be fired via the interface in the cockpit.

Additionally, the Puddle Jumper possesses a cloaking device that, when activated, renders the craft invisible to the naked eye. The cloak can only be engaged during flight or when the ship has landed on a planet.

The inside of the Puddle Jumper is split into two sections - the cockpit and rear compartment. The two are separated by a partition which can be raised or lowered, depending on the purpose.

The pilot and co-pilot sit at the front of the cockpit with seats behind them for two passengers. There is a large viewport at the front of the Jumper with control consoles in front of that, however these are rarely used as the craft has the ability to interface with the pilot's mind, and from there, instructions can be given. A DHD is situated between the pilot and co-pilot in the event a Stargate needs to be dialled. When the craft is entering a Stargate, an automatic pilot is engaged to allow the safe transition through the wormhole's event horizon. The rear compartment contains a seating area for up to twelve people.

As the Puddle Jumper is regularly used through the Atlantis Stargate, it possesses advanced braking systems, that allow it to come to a standstill the moment it exits the Stargate. The Atlantis team frequently use Puddle Jumpers on offworld missions.
